We Couldn’t Find The Tool We Needed, So We Built It

Max Smart Digital started with a simple idea: technology should give people time back, not create more work.

Our founders come from marketing and technical careers. Between us, we have worked in corporate environments, run our own businesses and managed teams of people. We know how much time can be lost to repetitive, everyday tasks, and we understand the impact that can have on a business.

Time spent on manual jobs is time that could be spent growing the business, making sales, looking after customers, supporting your team or simply having more time outside work.

When AI started becoming more widely available, we could see what it could do. We also saw that some of the products coming onto the market were not solving problems in the way we believed they could. We wanted to build something different.

We Wanted To Build AI Differently

We decided to build an AI-first company. For us, that means AI is not something added to a product afterwards. It is part of how we think about, design and build our products from the beginning.

We use AI as part of our development process, but the ideas, product design and decisions come from us. We decide what problem needs solving, how the product should work and how it can be made genuinely useful.

The journey has not always been straightforward. Our early prototype showed us that the process we were using was not right, so we stepped back, changed direction and started building the foundations for what became OttBot Connect. We also learnt that making different technologies work together properly is not as simple as it can seem. Those experiences have helped shape how we build OttBot today.

Sometimes You Have To Build What Doesn’t Exist

One of the best examples came from a problem we experienced ourselves. Two of our founders are dyslexic, and we needed a better way to explain what needed to happen when working with video and written requirements. We couldn’t find a tool that did what we needed, so we built one.

Instead of having to write everything down, we could use video to explain what was needed. AI could then help identify the changes and information required. That idea helped shape Flex Mode within OttBot Vision. It makes it easier for neurodivergent people to take information from video and turn it into written information automatically.

For us, this is what AI should be about, not technology for technology’s sake. Technology that solves a real problem.

From One Product To An Ecosystem

OttBot started with one product, but we soon saw the potential to build something bigger. Rather than creating one product that tries to do everything, we are building an ecosystem of connected tools that businesses can use individually or together. This gives businesses the flexibility to start with what they need and add more as they grow.

OttBot has grown from its first product into a connected ecosystem, with more products being developed to help businesses automate different parts of their everyday work.

What We Are Really Trying To Achieve

We are a family-run business, and honesty and integrity matters to us. We are not interested in making big promises about AI. We want to build useful technology that genuinely helps people.

Our shared goal is simple: give business owners and their teams their time back. Let technology take care of more of the repetitive work, so people can spend more time on the things that matter, whether that is growing the business, looking after customers, working with their team or having more time for themselves.

We are building Max Smart Digital with that same freedom in mind for ourselves. We want to create a business that allows us to work from anywhere in the world, enjoy travelling and build something we are genuinely proud of.
